Girl, 16, killed in ‘serious incident’ at takeaway was ‘brilliant A-grade student’
A 16-year-old girl killed in a suspected knife attack has been described as a “brilliant” A-grade student who “could have achieved anything in life.
The schoolgirl – who is yet to be formally named – died following a “serious incident” on Friday around midday in Ynyswen, Rhondda Cynon Taf near Treorchy, South Wales Police confirmed.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident in Baglan Street and are currently in hospital receiving treatment.
A huge number of emergency teams worked through the afternoon following initial reports, with a forensics tent erected outside the Blue Sky Chinese takeaway and the road shut off.
Floral tributes have been placed at the scene and friends have expressed their sadness after the loss.
Tia Warren, 17, who used to work at the takeaway, told The Sun: “She was lovely, I really liked her. She was brilliant at maths and was tutoring me even though she was in a year below me in school.
“I am devastated at what has happened – she was lovely, an A-grade student who could have achieved anything in life.”
Another friend, Kacey James, 16, was seen laying flowers at the scene.
She described the teen as clever, lovely and so funny, and said she couldn’t stop crying at the news.
Kacey said she was texting her friend yesterday before the messages suddenly stopped.
The investigation is in the early stages, however police confirmed the incident is not being treated as a terrorist attack, that it is understood that those involved are known to each other, and that detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
South Wales Police said in a statement released on Friday: “South Wales Police can confirm the sudden and unexplained death of a 16-year-old girl in the Rhondda earlier today.
“Cause of death has not been confirmed and a post-mortem examination will take place to help establish how she died.
“Emergency services were called to a premises in Baglan Street, Treorchy, at approximately midday today (Friday, March 5) to reports of a stabbing.
